In Memory of Josephine Mary Hutchinson

The Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation mourns the passing of Josephine Mary “Jo” Hutchinson, a cherished Lifetime Member of the Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation and a tireless advocate for preserving the history and heritage of Alberta’s ranching and agricultural communities.

Jo lived an extraordinary 99 years, spending much of her life closely connected to the land, ranching, teaching, and the history of the Cochrane area. She had an exceptional memory and a remarkable ability to recall the people, families, and stories that shaped the community. She believed those stories were worth preserving and sharing with future generations.

Jo was involved in many organizations throughout her remarkable life. Her commitment to history was evident in her contributions to such endeavors as the creation of the original Big Hill Country book, which helped document the people and families who settled and built the Cochrane region. She was also a passionate supporter of the Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation and was among a small group of Lifetime Members recognized for her tireless involvement and leadership.

The Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation is grateful for Jo’s many years of friendship, service, and support. We will remember her with great affection and appreciation. We will also continue the work she cared so deeply about: preserving and sharing the history of Alberta’s livestock and agricultural heritage.
